     Pearl Sydenstricker Buck (June 26, 1892 – March 6, 1973)

Writer Pearl S Buck, known also by her Chinese name, Sai Zhenzju, was
born in Hillsboro, West Virginia. As an infant she went with her parents to
China where they continued their missionary work. She.spent most of her
time until 1934 in China.Through her Chinese tutors she became learned
in Chinese classical literature, culture and folk lore.

Her novel The Good Earth, depicting peasant live in China, was the best-
selling fiction book in the U.S. in 1931 and 1932, and won the Pulitzer
Prize in 1932 and later won the Dean Howells Medal for Distinguished
Fiction in 1936. In 1938, Buck was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.

June Lockhart is primarily known as a 1950s and 1960 TV
actress, best remembered as the mother in two television
series, Lassie and Lost in Space. She also played Dr. Janet
Craig on the CBS-TV sitcom Petticoat Junction (1968-1970).

Singer-songwriter Carly Elisabeth Simon was born in New York City,
New York. She rose to fame in the 1970s with a string of hit records,
and has since been the recipient of two Grammy Awards, an Academy
Award, and a Golden Globe Award for her work. Throughout her career,
she has amassed 13 Top 40 hits including "You’re So Vain", "Nobody
Does It Better", and "Coming Around Again".

The CBS television network presented its first commercial color telecast
using their FCC approved color system with a test broadcast on Monday,
June 25,1951, The show, featuring Arthur Godfrey and guest Fay Dunaway,
was shown from 4:30 to 5:30 PM.
