GLENN MILLER WAS BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1904

      Alton Glenn Miller (March 1, 1904 – December 15, 1944)

Glenn Miller was a jazz trombonist, arranger, composer, and bandleader
in the swing era, one of the best-selling record artists from 1939 to 1943.

While traveling to entertain U.S. troops in France during World War ll, Miller’s
plane disappeared in bad weather over the English Channel. He was listed
as missing in action.

Glenn Miller’s most notable recordings include “In the Mood”, “Moonlight
Serenade”, “Tuxedo Junction”, and “At Last”. 

The Glenn Miller Orchestra was reformed after the war and continues to
record and perform to his day.

The 1965 single "Hurt So Bad" by Little Anthony & The Imperials,
was taken from their album, Goin’ out of My Head. It became a
Billboard Top 10 hit, reaching #10, and was an R&B Top 10 hit
as well, reaching #5. It was also performed by the group on
their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show (below).

characters from comedy to gangsters in Mafia movies such as
The
Godfather
in 1972 where he played the part of Moe Greene, a Las
Vegas casino owner.

   James "Jimmy" Dorsey
(February 29, 1904 – June 12, 1957)

Jimmy Dorsey was a prominent Jazz musician, composer, and big
band leader. He is the older brother of band leader Tommy Dorsey.

“So Rare” was recorded November 11, 1956 and released in January of 1957. It went 
to the #2 Billboard position and remained on the charts for 26 weeks. It became the 
highest charting song by a big band during the first decade of the rock and roll era.
