LONG RUNNING WESTERN BEGAN ON THIS DAY IN 1962
The 90-minute weekly Western television series was broadcast
on NBC from 1962–1971. Third longest running behind Bonanza
and Gunsmoke.
SHORT-LIVED SHOW DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1957
The Big Record was a record hop styled music show hosted by singer
Pattie Page and featured a mix of young and old big name guests of
the music and recording industry performing for a musical hour. They
included Harry James, Paul Anka, Gogi Grant, and Sammy Kaye. The
choreography was done by June Taylor. The Big Record was sponsored
by Oldsmobile and ran for 7 episodes from 1957 to 1958 on CBS-TV.
CAPITOL CORNERSTONE LAID ON THIS DAY IN 1793
A groundbreaking ceremony for the United States Capitol building took place
on September 18, 1793. President George Washington, dressed in masonic
attire (above), laid the cornerstone.

ROBERT BLAKE IS 79 TODAY
Robert Blake was born Michael James Vincenzo Gubitosi in Nutley, New Jersey. He
went from child actor in 1939 to ABC – TV’s "Baretta" (1975-1978). Blake was later
arrested for the 2001 murder of his wife, Bonny Lee Bakely. In 2005, he was tried
and acquitted.
