On March 3, 1956, “Heartbreak Hotel” entered the Billboard pop chart at
number 68, and the Country and Western chart at number nine. Within
two months, "Heartbreak Hotel" reached number one on both charts. It
also made the top five on the R&B chart, the first Presley single to chart
there. This resulted in the song becoming only the second single to reach
all three Billboard charts, after Carl Perkins‘ "Blue Suede Shoes". It spent
a total of twenty-seven weeks in the top 100. By April, "Heartbreak Hotel”
became a million-seller.

J.Cool, your staff reporter here, back after a short
vacation and to tell you that once again, the boss,
that’s right, “Blogger Bob” is my boss and his timing
in posting, as usual, is impeckable. While lounging
around the pool the thought occured to me that “Elvis”
probably spent more time on the Billboard charts than
any other artist or group did. So I decided to check it
out. Here are those results and I am sure it will
“bloggle” your mind as it did mine. Elvis put 149 songs
on the Billboard chart starting with Heartbreak Hotel
on March 6th 1956 (as the the boss already stated)
and ending with the Elvis Medely which dropped off
the chart after seven weeks, January 15th 1983 giving
him a total of…..are you ready for this…..11,074 days
on the Billboard chart. That my friends is 1,582 weeks
or 30 plus years of keeping his fans satisfied and I
was definatly a fan. Of those hits, 18 went to the top
and spent 80 weeks there. He also had six that
peaked at number two, spending 11 weeks there and
38 that went top ten! All in all I would say that was
quite a carear…..and oh by the way boss, that
rearsearch wore me out so much that i’m going to
have to take another vacation! See ya in about a week!
