Stuart Fergusson Victor Sutcliffe
(June 23, 1940 – April 10, 1962)
Scottish-born Sutcliffe was the original bassist for the Beatles in the
early days when they were going by the The Silver Beetles. He is
credited, along with his best friend John Lennon, with creating the
band’s name. He left the group in 1961 and died the following year
of an intracranial brain hemorrhage at 21. The Beatles paid homage
to him by including their first bass player on the cover of Sgt. Pepper’s
Lonely Hearts Club Band.
