SINGLE RECORDED ON THIS DAY IN 1959

"There Goes My Baby" was the first single by the second incarnation of the
Drifters, previously known as the 5 Crowns, who assumed the group name
in 1958 after manager George Treadwell fired the remaining members of
the original lineup. The Atlantic Records release was Ben E. King’s
debut recording as lead singer of the group.

NUMBER-ONE SONG ON THIS DAY IN 1965

The Temptations went to the top of the singles chart with the Smokey
Robinson penned "My Girl", making the group the first male act to have
a chart topper for Motown Records, the first single to feature David Ruffin
on lead vocals and the group’s first number-one hit. It became the groups
signature song. In 2004, "My Girl" was ranked number 88 on Rolling Stone ‘​s
list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".

Tune Trivia: The Miracles were originally picked to record the song.

Retired NBA player Brian Wade Grant played the power forward 
and
center positions for five teams during 12 seasons. One of
those teams, the Portland Trail Blazers (1997- 2000).

Grant was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in November of 
2008 and soon started The Brian Grant Foundation that partners
with other foundations, such as the Michael J. Fox Foundation
for Parkinson’s Research and the Muhammad Ali Parkinson
Center, to support and fund research dedicated to finding a
cure for Parkinson’s Disease.

TALK SHOW TEST-RUN ON THIS DAY IN 1977

The Dial-a-President radio program, featuring President Jimmy Carter and CBS
news anchorman Walter Cronkite, aired for the first time. The idea of Cronkite
and CBS, the show was a test-run to see if it could be successful. Approximately
9 million calls flooded the CBS radio studio during the two-hour broadcast. It was pronounced a success, but never aired again.
