James Francis Cagney, Jr. (July 17, 1899 – March 30, 1986)
Cagney won an Oscar for his role as George M. Cohan in the musical film
Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942). He gained additional fame for his tough guy
roles in movies such as The Public Enemy (1931). In 1999, the American
Film Institute ranked him eighth among its 50 Greatest American Screen
Legends.
