Time magazine presented its cover in color for the first time. The
subject was Japanese Emperor Hirohito.
Time, founded in 1923, has the world’s largest circulation for a weekly news
magazine, and has a readership of 25 million, 20 million of which are based
in the United States.

Alicia Christian "Jodie" Foster is having her 53rd birthday today.
Foster graduated from Yale’s prestigious theater program magna cum laude
in 1985 and received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from Yale in
1997.

The epic historical drama film Ben-Hur was directed by William Wyler,
produced by Sam Zimbalist for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and stars Charlton
Heston, Stephen Boyd, Jack Hawkins, Hugh Griffith and Haya Harareet. It
is a remake of the 1925 silent film with the same name. The movie had the
largest budget ($15.175 million) as well as the largest sets built of any film
produced at the time.
