FIRST STAR TREK EPISODE ON THIS DAY IN 1966

The Sci-Fi franchise Star Trek, created by Gene Roddenberry, aired the
first season episode of Star Trek: The Original Series on NBC-TV entitled
"The Man Trap". It was written by
George Clayton Johnson, and directed
by
Marc Daniels.  

After three seasons, NBC television canceled the show, and the last
original episode aired on June 3, 1969.

PETER O’TOOLE IS 80 TODAY

Peter Seamus Lorcan O’Toole is a retired Irish actor of stage and screen 
who achieved stardom in 1962 playing T. E. Lawrence in Lawrence of 
Arabia, and then went on to become a highly acclaimed film and stage 
actor. O’toole has been nominated for eight Academy Awards, and holds
the record for most competitive Academy Award acting nominations without 
a win. He has won four Golden Globes, a BAFTA, and an Emmy and was 
the recipient of an Honorary Academy Award in in 2003 for his work.

THEME PARK OPENED ON THIS DAY IN 1955

Disneyland Park, as it is known today, is located in Anaheim, California and is owned 
and operated by the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts division of The Walt Disney  
Company. Construction began in 1954 and the park was unveiled during a special  
televised press event (below) on the ABC Television Network on Sunday, July 17, 
1955.

Actor Burt Ward was born Bert John Gervis, Jr. in Los Angeles, California. He is
best known for his portrayal of Robin in the television series Batman (1966–68)
and its theatrical film spin-off.

Burt ward was 19 when he auditioned for the part of Robin. He and
Adam West were up against Lyle Waggoner and Peter Deyell for the
roles of Batman and Robin, respectively.
