On September 2, 1969, America’s first automatic teller machine
(ATM) made its public debut, dispensing cash to customers at
Chemical Bank in Rockville Centre, New York. ATMs went on
to revolutionize the banking industry, eliminating the need to
visit a bank to conduct basic financial transactions.

By the 1980s, these money machines had become widely
popular and handled many of the functions previously
performed by human tellers, such as check deposits and
money transfers between accounts. Today, ATMs are as
indispensable to most people as cell phones and e-mail.

Sir Thomas Bland (center) unveiled the first ATM by
drawing back a curtain, and actor Reg Varney (center) 
made the first cash withdrawal.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The brown felt fedora worn by actor
Harrison Ford in the second installment of the Indiana
Jones movies sold for $630,000 at auction, film and TV
memorabilia company Propstore announced Friday.

The hat featured in 1984’s "Indiana Jones and the Temple
of Doom" was expected to fetch between $250,000 and
$500,000, according to the item’s online description.

The fedora comes from the personal collection of the late
stunt performer Dean Ferrandini, who also wore it while
standing in for Ford as Jones, the dashing archaeologist
who really hates snakes.

Sam Elliott spent his teenaged years living in northeast Portland,
and graduated from David Douglas High School in 1962.  

After graduating from high school, Elliott attended college
at the University of Oregon as an English and psychology
major for two terms before dropping out. He returned to
Portland and attended Clark College in nearby Vancouver,

Bob Newhart has died at the age of 94 in Los Angeles. The
comedy icon’s publicist Jerry Digney said he died after a
series of short illnesses.

Newhart spent six decades making America laugh. He began
his long and storied career with a wildly influential stand-up
record in 1960, starred in a pair of long-running and much-
loved sitcoms through the 1970s and 1980s and continued
to win over new fans with appearances in films such as Elf
and a recurring role as Professor Proton on The Big Bang
Theory.

Star Trek III The Search For Spock 1984.

(Associated Press) – James Sikking, who starred as a hardened
police lieutenant on the 1980s “Hill Street Blues” on NBC and
the titular character’s kindhearted dad on “Doogie Howser, M.D.”,
has died.

His publicist said Sikking died of complications from dementia
Saturday.
