On July 6, 1994, the movie Forrest Gump, a comedy-drama film,
opened
in theaters. A huge box-office success, the film stars
Tom Hanks in the title role of Forrest, a good-hearted man with
a low I.Q. who winds up at the center of key cultural and historical
events of the second half of the 20th century.

Forrest Gump was based on a 1986 novel of the same name by
Winston Groom who himself grew up in Alabama and served in
the Army during Vietnam.

numerous accolades throughout his career, which spanned six decades, including two Academy Awards, two Golden
Globe Awards
, one Cannes Film Festival Award, and three British Academy Film Awards. Brando is credited with being one of the
first actors to bring the
Stanislavski system of acting and method
acting
to mainstream audiences.

Brando died of respiratory failure from pulmonary fibrosis with congestive heart failure at the UCLA Medical Center. The cause
of death was initially withheld, with his lawyer citing privacy
concerns. He also suffered from
diabetes and liver cancer.

Mull passed at his Los Angeles home "after a valiant fight against
a long illness."
