by Guinness World Records

.

press release.

(Fox News) – The Louisville Zoo in Louisville, Kentucky,
announced it made the tough decision to euthanize Helen
on Friday, Oct. 14,  because her

several months due to natural aging.

The zoo said Helen had been in "remarkably good health
for most of her life" despite being diagnosed with "expected
age-related arthritis and some periodontal disease.”

According to the media release, In recent months, Helen
developed instability and tremors that put her at fall risk
and impacted her day-to-day life.

Female zoo gorillas typically have a median life expectancy
of about 39 years.

Helen’s estimated birth year is 1958, and she was born in the
wilderness of
Western Africa, which is now modern-day

WORLD’S OLDEST DOG HAS DIED AT AGE 22

(CNN) — Pebbles, the world’s oldest dog, has died at the age of 22, according to Guinness World Records.

The record-breaking toy fox terrier died of natural causes at her
home in Taylors, South Carolina, on Monday,
said Guinness in a
news release.

The elderly pooch was five months shy of her 23rd birthday,
according to the release.

Pebbles was only recognized as the world’s oldest living dog
earlier this year. In April, Guinness had initially named

a 21-year
old chihuahua named TobyKeith

as the oldest living dog — but
when Pebbles’ owners saw the news, they realized their dog was
actually older and they leapt into action like a dog chasing a
squirrel.
