Unlike other anthology programs such as Twilight Zone and Outer Limits, the ABC 
network series One Step Beyond, created by Merwin Gerard, was presented in the 
form of thirty-minute docudramas, all said to be based on true events. The show
Initially included the name of the sponsor Alcoa as part of its full title. The original
run of the series was three seasons from January 1959 to July 1961.

Harry Lubin composed the music for the series. The Ventures included a cover
version of the show’s main theme "Fear" on their highly acclaimed 1964 Dolton
Records
release The Ventures in Space. The second season of The Outer
Limits
used a variation of "Fear" for the end titles.

The Outer Limits is an anthology series that aired from September 16, 1963 to
January 15, 1965 on the ABC television network. The hour-long self-contained
episodes are often compared to The Twilight Zone, but with a stronger emphasis
on science fiction rather than bizarre or supernatural stories.

TV’S FIRST SCI-FI ANTHOLOGY SERIES


Tales of Tomorrow
is an anthology science fiction series that was performed
and broadcast live on ABC, Friday’s from August 3, 1951 to June 12, 1953. It
featured such stories as Frankenstein, starring Lon Chaney, Jr., and 20,000 
Leagues Under the Sea with Thomas Mitchell as Captain Nemo. Other
episodes featured such performers as Boris Karloff, Brian Keith, Rod
Steiger, Leslie Nielsen and Paul Newman. The series had many
similarities to the later Twilight Zone. Tales of Tomorrow ran for
a total of eighty-five 30-minute episodes.

A 27-year-old Paul Newman received his very first screen credit when he played
a young Army sergeant in the episode "Ice From Space," originally broadcast on
August 8th, 1952.

The first of the Walt Disney anthology television series premiered on ABC,
Wednesday night, October 27, 1954. The show was originally hosted by
Walt Disney himself presenting a series of cartoons and other material from
the studio library. One-hour edits of recent Disney films were also aired and
occasionally, educational segments would be featured. The television series
continued to be produced by the Walt Disney Company under several titles
until 2008.
