Buzz Aldrin Opens Up on Space Travel, Mars and Depression

Apollo 11 astronaut Edwin Eugene "Buzz" Aldrin Jr., who
reimagined the potential of human achievement before a
worldwide audience when he walked on the moon, was
born on this day in history, Jan. 20, 1930.

"The sky is not the limit … There are footprints on the
Moon!" the explorer enthused in his 2016 book, "No
Dream Is Too High: Life Lessons From a Man Who
Walked on the Moon." The second person to walk on
the Moon
is 94 years old today.

APOLLO SPACESUIT TO BE AUCTIONED

Apollo 11: Michael Collins' Personal Apollo-Era Flight Suit by | Lot ...

A collection of rare autographs and memorabilia, including a
spacesuit from Apollo 11 astronaut Michael Collins, is being
auctioned for more than $62,000, according to the Tyler
Morning Telegraph in Texas.

According to records, Collins wore the NASA flight suit in the
days and months following his return to Earth with the
Apollo
11 mission in July 1969.

The suit was removed from his personal locker just six months
after the historic flight following his retirement from
NASA in
January 1970.

Other highlights of the auction include a love letter from Elizabeth
Taylor to Richard Burton, with a starting price of $44,000, James
Dean’s high school yearbook, signed by the actor, with a starting
price of nearly $12,000 and a set of Beatles autographs from 1963, starting at over $12,500.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Astronaut Frank Borman, who commanded Apollo 8’s historic Christmas 1968 flight that circled the moon 10
times and paved the way for the lunar landing the next year, died
Tuesday in Billings, Montana. He was 95.

NASA announced Thursday, Thomas K. Mattingly, a key
commander during the Apollo 16 mission to the moon,
died on October 31 at age 87.     

NASA administrator Bill Nelson said “Astronaut Mattingly
was key to the success of our Apollo Program, and his
shining personality will ensure he is remembered throughout
history."

as a payload specialist aboard the space shuttle
Discovery on October 29, 1998.

At 77 years of age, Glenn was the oldest human ever to travel
in space. During the nine-day mission, he served as part of a
NASA study on health problems associated with aging.
