The 1963 Masters Tournament was held from April 4 to April 7 at Augusta National
Golf Club. It was the 27th Masters Tournament in which 84 golfers entered with 50
of them making the cut at eight over-par. It was here that Jack Nicklaus won his
first green jacket, defeating Tony Lema by one stroke. This was one of six
Masters victories for Nicklaus.

‘’SOUTH PACIFIC’’ OPENED ON THIS DAY IN 1949

South Pacific is a musical by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein ll. The
production is based on the James A. Michener’s Pulitzer Prize-winning 1947 book
Tales of the South Pacific. It opened at the Majestic Theater, moving later to the 
Broadway Theater in June 1953. 

It is considered to be one of the greatest Broadway musicals, winning ten Tony
Awards, including Best musical, Best Score, Best Libretto, Best Director and
four acting awards.

(April 3, 1924 – July 1, 2004)

Bando is considered to be one of the most important actors in modern
American Cinema and was one of only three professional actors, along
with Charlie Chaplin and Marilyn Monroe, named by Time magazine as
one of its 100 Persons of the Century in 1999.

Marlon Brando became a screen star during the 1950s, winning his
first Academy Award for his performance as Terry Malloy in the 1954
film On the Waterfront. His second Academy Award came in 1972
for his  role as Vito Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola’s The
Godfather.
