Singer Jimmy Clanton was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and became
known as the “swamp pop R&B teenage idol”. His 1958 hit song “Just A
Dream” reached the number four position on the Billboard chart, sold a
million copies and was awarded a gold disc.

CONWAY TWITTY
(September 1, 1933 – June 5, 1993)
Country music artist Conway Twitty was born Harold Lloyd Jenkins in Friars
Point, Mississippi. He had a successful career in early rock and roll, R&B,
and pop music. Conway Twitty held the record for the most number one
singles of any act with 55 #1 Billboard Country hits until George Strait broke
the record in 2006. He received many Country Music Association awards for
duets with Loretta Lynn. The former member of the Grand Ole Opry, he was
inducted into both the Country Music and Rockabilly Halls of Fame.
”It’s Only Bake Believe” was the first of nine Top 40 hits for Conway.
RICHARD GERE IS 62 TODAY
Richard Gere began his acting career in the 1970s, playing a supporting role
in Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977), and he had a starring role in Days of
Heaven (1978). He became well known for his role in American Gigolo
(1980), which established him as a leading man. Gere then stared in
several hit films including An Officer and a Gentleman (1982), Pretty
Woman (1990), Primal Fear (1996), and the musical film Chicago
(2002), for which he won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor,
as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award as part of the Best Cast.
SEAN CONNERY HAS TURNED 81 TODAY
Sir Thomas Sean Connery better known as Sean Connery, is a Scottish actor
and producer who has won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards, one of
which being a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award and three Golden Globes.
Connery is best-known for portraying the character agent 007 James Bond,
starring in seven Bond films between 1962 and 1983. 1988, Connery won
the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Untouchables
(1987). His films also include The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003),
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990),
and The Rock (1996). Connery was knighted in July 2000. He has been polled
as "The Greatest Living Scot”.

GENE KELLY (August 23, 1912 – February 2, 1996)
Eugene Curran "Gene" Kelly was a dancer, actor, singer, film director and
producer, and choreographer. Kelly was known for his energetic and athletic
dancing style performances in the musical films Singin’ In the Rain (1952)
and An American in Paris (1951). Kelly was the recipient of an Academy
Honorary Award in 1952 for his career achievements. He later received
lifetime achievement awards in the Kennedy Center Honors in 1985
(above), from the Screen Actors Guild and American Film Institute. In
1999 the AFI also numbered Gene Kelly 15th in their Greatest Male
Stars of All Time list.
