BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1928



Fred McFeely Rogers
(March 20, 1928 – February 27, 2003)

Fred Rogers was an educator and a Presbyterian minister who shared
his TV neighborhood with generations of children on the public television
show, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood (1968–2001). Rogers received the
Presidential Medal of Freedom, some forty honorary degrees, and a
Peabody Award. He was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame, was
recognized by two Congressional resolutions, and was ranked No. 35
among TV Guide‘s Fifty Greatest TV Stars of All Time. The Smithsonian
Institution displays one of his trademark sweaters as a "Treasure of
American History".

The 25th Academy Awards ceremony took place at the RKO Pantages Theatre
in Hollywood, California, and the NBC International Theatre in New York City.

It was the first Academy Awards ceremony to be televised, and the first ceremony
to be held in Hollywood and New York City simultaneously. It was also the only
year that the New York ceremonies were to be held in the NBC International
Theatre
on Columbus Circle, which was shortly thereafter demolished and
replaced by the New York Coliseum convention center

Sir Michael Caine (born
Maurice Joseph Micklewhite) is 83 today.

Caine served in the Korean War for the British Army. He made his acting debut
as Hindley, a drunkard, in a 1953 production of Wuthering Heights. Other than legendary actor Jack Nicholson, he is the only actor to be nominated for an
Academy Award in every decade from the 1960s to the 2000s.

LIZA MINNELLI IS 70 TODAY


Liza May Minnelli was born in Hollywood, California.

Liza Minnelli is the daughter of actress and singer Judy Garland. She is known
for her portrayal of Sally Bowles in the 1972 musical film Cabaret which won
her an Academy Award for Best Actress. She was nominated for an Academy
Award for her role in The Sterile Cuckoo (1969). Minnelli made her first film
appearance at the age of three.
