It was the ultimate All-American romance: the tall, handsome hero
of the country’s national pastime captures the heart of the beautiful, glamorous Hollywood star. But the brief, volatile marriage of Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio–the couple wed on January 14, 1954–
barely got past the honeymoon before cracks began to show in
its brilliant veneer.

In 1952, the New York Yankees slugger DiMaggio asked an
acquaintance to arrange a dinner date with Monroe, a buxom
blonde model-turned-actress whose star was on the rise after
supporting roles in films such as Monkey Business (1952) and
a leading role in the B-movie thriller Don’t Bother to Knock (1952).

The press immediately picked up on the relationship and began to
cover it exhaustively, though Monroe and DiMaggio preferred to
keep a low profile, spending evenings at home or in a back corner
of DiMaggio’s restaurant. On January 14, 1954, they were married
at San Francisco City Hall, where they were mobbed by reporters
and fans. Monroe had apparently mentioned the wedding plans to someone at her film studio, who leaked it to the press.

Sanford Koufax (87) nicknamed "the Left Arm of God"
and "Dandy Sandy."

On November 18, 1966, Sandy Koufax, the ace pitcher for the
Los Angeles Dodgers, retired from baseball. He was just 30
years old, and he was retiring after a great season–he’d led
the Dodgers to a National League pennant and won his third
Cy Young award. But he had chronic arthritis in his pitching
arm, and he was afraid that if he kept playing baseball,
eventually he wouldn’t be able to use his left hand at all.
“In those days there was no surgery,” he said much later.
“The wisdom was if you went in there, it would only make
things worse and your career would be over, anyway. Now
you go in, fix it, and you’re OK for next spring.”

(FOXNEWS) – A nonprofit group of cold case crime investigators
believes it has located a site in Milwaukee where former Teamsters 
Union President Jimmy Hoffa is buried.

The Case Breakers said a "a dying police sergeant’s scribbled instructions on an ace of spades" playing card helped lead
their yearslong investigation to the old site of Milwaukee County
Stadium in Wisconsin, according to a Wednesday press release.

The alleged burial site is next to the current Milwaukee Brewers
stadium, American Family Field (below) where they believe Hoffa’s
body lies in a spot under where the demolished stadium’s third-
base line previously stood.

On October 6, 1926, Yankee slugger Babe Ruth hit a record
three homers against the St. Louis Cardinals in the fourth
game of the World Series. The Yanks won the game 10-5,
but despite Ruth’s unprecedented performance, they lost
the championship in the seventh game. In 1928, in the fourth
game of another Yanks-Cards World Series, Ruth tied his
own record, knocking three more pitches out of the same
park.
