NUMBER-ONE ON THIS DAY IN 1969

The song "Dizzy" was recorded by Tommy Roe, with instrumental
backing from L.A. session musicians known as the Wrecking Crew.

“Dizzy” was a major hit on both sides of the Atlantic, reaching number
one
on the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks in March 1969, and one 
week on the UK Singles Chart in June 1969.


Thomas David "Tommy" Roe will be 74 in May.

SINGER GOGI GRANT IS DEAD AT 91


Gogi Grant (Myrtle Audrey Arinsberg)
(September 20, 1924 – March 10, 2016)

Gogi Grant, best known for her No. 1 hit in 1956 “The Wayward Wind”, died
Thursday. She recorded more than a dozen albums over her career. Grant
took a two-decade hiatus from show business to raise a family but returned
to singing in 1987 and performed into her late 80s.

NUMBER-ONE ON THIS DAY IN 1971

The Osmonds song first It hit the top of the chart on February 13,
1971 and stayed there for five weeks. It also reached number six
on the R&B chart. It was written by George Jackson, who originally
had the Jackson 5 in mind for the song.  "One Bad Apple" was also
used as the theme to The Osmonds cartoon show on ABC-TV.

RECORD RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1970


The Jackson 5

The hit song "ABC"  by the Jackson 5 was first heard on American Bandstand 
(ABC-TV) on February 21, 1970 (above) just before it was released. It knocked
the Beatles‘ song Let It Be off the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100
and was also number one on the soul singles chart for four weeks.

"ABC" was the first single from the Jackson 5’s second album ABC which was
released on May 8, 1970, and is considered to be one of the band’s signature
songs. It is one of the shortest titles to hit #1, and is the first song alphabetically
in the list of #1 hits of the Billboard Hot 100.
