Bobby Vinton (Stanley Robert Vinton, Jr.)
Pop singer Bobby Vinton’s #1 charting single "Blue Velvet" in 1963 was
made famous by the film of the same name by David Lynch. His first hit
single was "Roses Are Red (My Love)." Bobby was a member of the U.S.
Army and signed to Epic Records after being discharged.
The instrumental track for "I Get Around" was recorded on April 2 and the vocals
were recorded during a session eight days later on April 10. The finished single
was released on May 11. In July, “ Get Around” became The Beach Boys’ first
number-one song in the United States.
Alpert, along with his group The Tijuana Brass (or TJB) recorded five
number-one albums among a total of 28 on the Billboard Album chart
and received eight Grammy Awards, sold 14 platinum albums and
14 gold. He also co-founded A&M Records with partner Jerry Moss.
Alpert is the only recording artist to hit No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot
100 pop chart as both a vocalist ("This Guy’s in Love with You", 1968)
and an instrumentalist ("Rise", 1979).
The album Come Fly with Me was released in 1958 and was Sinatra’s
first collaboration with arranger/conductor Billy May. It reached #1
on the Billboard album chart in its second week, and remained at
the top for five weeks.
