A FILM OF FIRSTS DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1937
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the first full-length cel-animated feature in
motion picture history, as well as the first animated feature film produced in America,
the first produced in full color, the first to be produced by Walt Disney and Walt
Disney Productions, and the first in the Walt Disney Animated Classics canon. Snow
White and the Seven Dwarfs premiered at the famous Carthay Circle Theater in Hollywood on Tuesday December 21, 1937. It was released to theaters nationwide
by RKO Pictures on February 4, 1938.
CHRISTMAS SPECIAL DEBUTED 45 YEARS AGO
How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is a 26-minute animated short based on the
children’s book by Dr. Seuss. It was originally aired on CBS television on Sunday, December 18, 1966 and was aired annually during the Christmas season until 1987 when it was acquired by TBS. It is one of a few Christmas specials from the 1960s
that is still being shown regularly on TV. Boris Karloff, in one of his final roles,
narrates the film and also provides the speaking voice of The Grinch.
