Lum and Abner was a radio comedy show which aired on the NBC network from
1931 to 1954. The show was created by it’s stars, Chester Lauck and Norris Goff
(shown above). It was modeled on life in the small town of Waters, Arkansas
near where the pair grew up. In 1936 the town of Waters changed its
name to Pine Ridge, after the fictional town in the radio show.

Actor Lee Majors is primarily known for several high profile roles on television
including Heath Barkley, in The Big Valley on ABC (1965-1969), Jess Brandon,
in Owen Marshall: Counselor at Law on ABC (1971-1974), and as Colonel Steve
Austin, in The Six Million Dollar Man, also on ABC-TV (1974-1978).

FIRST FEMALE NIGHTLY NEWS ANCHOR ~ ON THIS DATE IN 1976
Broadcast journalist Barbara Walters was a popular morning news anchor
for over 10 years on NBC’s Today, where she worked with Hugh Downs
and Frank McGee. She moved to the ABC television network in 1976
and became the first female co-anchor of the ABC Evening News,
working with Harry Reasoner until 1978.
