MARILYN MONROE ( JUNE 1, 1926–AUG. 5, 1962)
Marilyn Monroe, born Norma Jeane Mortenson but baptized and raised as Norma
Jeane Baker, was a actress, singer and model. She began a career as a model,
which led to a film contract in 1946. Her early film appearances were minor, but
her performances in The Asphalt Jungle and All About Eve (both 1950) were well received. Marilyn’s dramatic performance in Bus Stop (1956) was acclaimed by
critics, and she received a Golden Globe nomination. Marilyn also received a
Golden Globe Award for her role in Some Like It Hot (1959).

Helen O’Connell (May 23, 1920 – September 9, 1993)
Singer, actress, and dancer Helen O’Connell Joined the Jimmy Dorsey
band and in 1939 had her best selling records in the early 1940s with
“Green Eyes”, “Amapola”, “Tangerine” and “Yours”. She retired from
show business upon her first marriage in 1943. When the marriage
ended in 1951, she resumed her career, making some successful
records and regular appearances on television. Helen was one of the
first "girls" on NBC’s The Today show, and at one point she had her
own NBC program called Here’s Hollywood, conducting interviews with
celebrities, often in their own homes. O’Connell co-hosted the Miss
USA and Miss Universe pageants with Bob Barker (below) from 1972
to 1980.

her career as a backup singer and later came to prominence as one half
of the pop rock duo Sonny & Cher with the success of their song "I Got
You Babe” in 1965. Her hit dance single "Believe" is her biggest-selling
recording and was the best-selling single of 1999,having sold over 10
million copies worldwide.
