COIN FROM FLEA MARKET HAS BIG WORTH
(FoxNews) – A rare 1776 Continental dollar that was bought at a French flea
market for less than $1 is worth nearly $100,000.
The coin was purchased by a person who has remained anonymous to this
point for 56 cents in June 2018, according to a statement from Professional
Coin Grading Services (PCGS), which graded the coin.
"The seller had a cookie box full of coins and medals for sale and, while the
buyer was looking through it, the seller pulled out another box of coins with
this coin on top," PCGS wrote in the statement. "The buyer unfamiliar with
this piece asked a price, and the seller said 50 [Euro] cents. The coin was purchased, and the new owner later Googled ‘Continental Currency’ and
‘1776’ to discover what he had. Believing he had found a treasure, he took
it to a local coin dealer for authenticity, who was unsure and suggested he
send it to the United States for authentication."

OLD COIN COULD BE WORTH A PRETTY PENNY
Before the switch to steel took place, a handful of cents were minted
by mistake in copper, making a 1943 Bronze Lincoln cent coin (above) one of the most famous coins in U.S. history: 76 years later, the very
first of these error coins ever discovered will make history when
Heritage Auctions offers the rarity Jan. 10 in Orlando, Florida.

RARE NICKEL SOLD FOR BIG BUCKS TODAY
(Fox News) – An extremely rare nickel up for auction in Philadelphia fetched
$4.56 million from an anonymous buyer Wednesday.
The Stack’s Bowers Galleries offered the Eliasberg 1913 Liberty Head Nickel
for auction during the American Numismatic Association’s World’s Fair of
Money.
According to Brian Kendrella, president of Stack’s Bowers Galleries,“This is
truly a momentous sale and one for the history books.” He said “The new
owner of the Eliasberg nickel now possesses one of the rarest, most valuable United States coins, and one of only three examples of this coveted coin in
private hands.”
The coin is named for financier Louis E. Eliasberg, who bought the coin in
1948, and amassed one of the greatest coin collections in U.S. history.
This special nickel is one of only five ever produced at the Third Philadelphia
Mint.
