as "Do the Bop", American Bandstand host Dick Clark suggested the group re-
write the lyrics because the dance known as The Bop was on its way out. Clark
was right and the quartet’s record stayed in the top spot for a month.
Chubby Checker (born Ernest Evans in Spring Gulley, South Carolina)
Checker is widely known for popularizing the twist dance style, with his 1960
hit cover of Hank Ballard‘s R&B hit "The Twist". In September 2008 the song
topped Billboard’s list of the most popular singles to have appeared in the
Hot 100 since its debut in 1958.
Mitzi Gaynor was born Francesca Marlene de Czanyi von
Gerber in Chicago
Dancer, singer, and actress Mitzi Gaynor gained recognition for her
roles in South Pacific (1958) and There’s No Business Like Show
Business (1954). Before fame, she sang with the LA Civic Light
Opera at the age of 13.
