Samuel Cook (January 22, 1931 – December 11, 1964)

Cooke’s debut single, was a massive commercial success, becoming
a number one hit for three weeks on Billboard‍‍ ‘​‍s pop chart and six
weeks on Billboard’s 
Rhythm & Blues chart.

It was named one of the 500 most important rock and roll recordings
by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In 2005, the song was voted #115
by representatives of the music industry and press in Rolling Stone

magazine’s The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time

FIRST PRODUCTION ON THIS DAY IN 1899

In 1898, the Washington Condensed Milk Company established a condensing
plant in Kent, Washington. Within one and one-half years the company went
bankrupt. The Pacific Coast Condensed Milk Company, established by Elbridge
Amos Stuart (below), acquired the plant and in 1899, produced the first cases
of evaporated milk, called Carnation Sterilized Cream. The company would later
change its name and become the world famous Carnation Milk Company.
