AGENCY FORMED ON THIS DAY IN 1930

va

The establishment of the Veterans Administration came in 1930 when
Congress authorized President Herbert Hoover to "consolidate and
coordinate Government activities affecting war veterans".  Brigadier
General Frank T. Hines, who directed the Veterans Bureau for seven
years, was named as the first Administrator of Veterans Affairs, a job
he held until 1945.

Dr. Charles Griffith, the VA’s second Medical Director, came from the
Public Health Service and Veterans Bureau. Both he and Hines were
the longest serving executives in VA’s history.

The Supremes from left: Mary Wilson, Diana Ross and Florence Ballard.

The song "Buttered Popcorn" was written by Motown president Berry Gordy
and songwriter Barney Ales, and produced by Gordy, and released as a
Tamla label single by The Supremes. It was the group’s second single since
signing with Motown Records (and their third overall) as well as their second,
and last, single for the Tamla, before moving to the Motown label. This is not
only one of the rare singles to feature Florence Ballard on lead, but the only
one with her as the sole lead.
