lone ranger title
Original television run: September 15, 1949 – June 6, 1957 on ABC

Clayton Moore in the starring role. Jay Silverheels, a member of the Mohawk
tribe of Canada played The Lone Ranger’s Indian companion, Tonto.

USA Today is a national daily newspaper published by the Gannett Company. It
was founded by Al Neuharth. It remains the widest circulated print newspaper in
the United States. USA Today is distributed in all fifty states, the District of
Columbia
, Puerto Rico, Guam, Canada and the United Kingdom. The paper
has its headquarters in the Tysons Corner area of Fairfax County, Virginia.

TV SERIES DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1972

The Waltons won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series in
1973. Also in 1973 Richard Thomas won the Emmy for Lead Actor in a Drama
Series and Michael Learned won the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Drama Series
three times in 1973, 1974, and 1976. Ellen Corby was also a three-time winner
in the Supporting Actress category, winning in 1973, 1975, and 1976. Will Geer
was awarded the Supporting Actor Emmy in 1975. The series also earned a
Peabody Award for its

TV SERIES DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1954

The television series Lassie aired on CBS until September 12, 1971 and was
in syndication until March 24, 1973.
 Lassie received critical favor at its debut
and won two Emmy Awards in its first years. Both stars Jan Clayton and June
Lockhart
were nominated for Emmys. Campbell’s Soup, was the show’s lifelong
sponsor.

Thomas "Tommy" Rettig and Lassie. Rettig died of a heart
attack on February 15, 1996. He was 54.
