RADIO SHOW PREMIERED ON THIS DAY IN 1940

Quiz Kids, was a popular radio and TV series of the 1940s and 1950s, originally sponsored by Alka-Seltzer. The series was broadcast on NBC from Chicago, airing
as a summer replacement show for Alec Templeton Time. It continued on radio for
the next 13 years.

SHOW FIRST HEARD ON THIS DAY IN 1944

Actor Alan Young and Bea Wain at the microphone

The Alan Young Show began on NBC Radio as a summer replacement
sitcom in 1944, featuring vocalist Bea Wain. It then moved to ABC Radio
until 1946 when the series returned to NBC for a year, was off in 1948
and returned to the air in 1949. The show made the move to television
in 1950 on the CBS network.

A significant event in the history of the U.S. Air Force Academy was the admission
of women. On 7 October 1975, President Gerald R. Ford signed legislation that 
permitted women to enter the United States service academies. On 26 June 1976, 
157 women entered the Air Force Academy with the Class of 1980. 

Major. Gen. Michelle Johnson (below) was the first woman to serve as a cadet
wing commander at the U.S. Air Force Academy.

ROCK SHOW DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1965

Dick Clark’s “Where the Action Is” was a music variety show which aired on
ABC network each weekday afternoon from 28 June 1965 though 31 March
1967. It was a spin-off of American Bandstand. The group "Paul Revere & The Raiders" were seen on the biggest majority of the shows.
Host Dick Clark only 
appeared in off-camera voice-overs to introduce performers.
