TV SHOW DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1951

DRAGNET TITLE

The pilot for Dragnet, "The Human Bomb" aired on NBC-TV as a special
presentation of the variety series Chesterfield Sound-Off Time. The show
garnered such high ratings that sponsor Liggett & Myers Tobacco dropped
the variety show and went with the police drama. The series officially began
on January 3, 1952 and ran until 1959.

Wallach is a veteran film, television and stage actor whose career has spanned
more than six decades, beginning in the late 1940s. For his performance as
Silva Vacarro in Baby Doll (1956), he won a BAFTA Award for Best Newcomer
and a Golden Globe nomination. Among his most famous roles are Calvera in
The Magnificent Seven (1960), Guido in The Misfits (1961), and Tuco in The
Good,
the Bad and the Ugly (1966). Wallach received an Honorary Academy
Award
at the 2nd Annual Governors Awards, presented on November 13, 2010.

(The Hollywood Reporter) – Al Ruscio, an often-seen character
actor who appeared on TV, in films and on stage for more than
a half-century, died Tuesday, according to his daughter Elizabeth.

His film résumé includes Fever Heat (1968), Any Which Way You
Can
(1980), The Hunter (1980), Jagged Edge (1985), Guilty by
Suspicion
(1991), The Silence of the Hams (1994) and The
Phantom
(1996).
