Death of a Salesman is a 1949 play written by play wright Arthur Miller. It
received the 1949 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a Tony Award for Best
Play. The production premiered at the Morosco Theater in New York

COMPOSER JOHN WILLIAMS IS 80 TODAY
The career of John Towner Williams spans almost six decades, composing
some of the most recognizable film scores in the history of motion pictures,
including the Star Wars Saga, Jaws, Indiana Jones film series, E.T. the Extra-
Terrestrial, and Jurassic Park. He has composed the music for all but two of
Steven Spielberg’s major feature films.
ACTRESS JENNIFER JASON LEIGH IS 50 TODAY!
Jennifer Jason Leigh (born Jennifer Leigh Morrow) is the daughter
of actor Vic Morrow and screenwriter Barbara Turner. Her father
died in 1982 when a stunt helicopter crashed on him during the
filming of Twilight Zone: The Movie. Leigh changed her surname
early in her acting career, taking the meddle name of “Jason” in
honor of a family friend, actor Jason Robards. Jennifer is best
known for her role in Fast Times at Ridgemont High ( 1982).

RADIO SERIAL BEGAN ON THIS DAY IN 1938
It initially began as Challenge of the Yukon, a 15-minute local radio series on
on Detroit’s WXYX. The title changed to Sergeant Preston of the Yukon in
November 1951, and remained under that name through the end of the
series and into television.
The part of the brave Canadian Mountie was played by various actors over
the course of the shows long run. Jay Michael originated the role until the
mid 1940s. Paul Sutton then took over and was followed briefly by Brace
Beemer when the The Lone Ranger series ended in 1954. Sutton came
back for the final broadcast.
The original announcer/narrator of the radio show was Bob Hite, who
was also the narrator for the Lone Ranger, Green Hornet and The
Shadow.
