PHONY GUITARS SEIZED BY FEDERAL AGENTS

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials in
Los Angeles
seized more than $18 million in fake Gibson guitars in the
largest counterfeit musical instrument seizure in history.  

Working with local and federal agencies at the LA/Long
Beach Seaport, agents intercepted the suspected cargo
arriving in ocean containers
from Asia. 

In total, agents seized more than 3,000 counterfeit guitars
and had they been genuine, the value would have been
more than $18.74 million.

James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (born Johnny Allen Hendrix.

On November 27, future rock superstar Jimi Hendrix was born
in Seattle, Washington. In his short career, he would establish
himself as one of the most innovative guitarists in rock ‘n’ roll.

Hendrix grew up playing guitar, inspired by blues greats like
Muddy Waters as well as early rockers. He joined the army in
1959 and became a paratrooper, but was honorably discharged
in 1961 after an injury that exempted him from duty in Vietnam.

In the early 1960s, Hendrix worked as a pickup guitarist, backing musicians including Little Richard, B.B. King, Ike and Tina Turner,
and Sam Cooke.

Hendrix died in London in September 1970, following a drug
overdose. He was 27.

Martin Mull, the comic musician and actor who started with 1970s
TV series “Fernwood 2 Night” and went on to appear as Colonel
Mustard in “Clue” and on “Arrested Development” and “Roseanne,”
died Thursday.

Mull passed at his Los Angeles home "after a valiant fight against
a long illness."

as Les Paul, was an American
jazz, country, and blues guitarist, songwriter, luthier, and inventor. He was one of the pioneers of

solid-body electric guitar, and his prototype, called the Log,
served as inspiration for the
Gibson Les Paul.

Paul taught himself how to play guitar, and while he is mainly
known for jazz and popular music, he had an early career in
country music.

In the 1950s, he and his wife, singer and guitarist Mary Ford,
recorded numerous records, selling millions of copies.
