A LEGEND BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1851

John Henry "Doc" Holliday
(August 14, 1851 – November 8, 1887)

Holliday was a gambler, gunfighter, dentist, and a good friend of Wyatt
Earp
. He was also a Deputy U.S. Marshal during and after the famous 
Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. At age 19 Holliday left his birthplace of 
Georgia for Pennsylvania to study dentistry.

James Butler “Wild Bill” Hickok (May 27, 1837 – August 2, 1876)

Some of Hickok’s exploits as reported at the time were fictionalized, but his skills as
a gunfighter and gambler provided the basis for his enduring fame. He was relieved
of his duties as marshal less than two months after accidentally killing Deputy. This incident was one of a series of questionable shootings and claims of misconduct.

GARY COOPER WAS BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1901

Gary Cooper
(Frank James Cooper) (May 7, 1901 – May 13, 1961)

Cooper’s career spanned from 1925 until shortly before his death, and
comprised more than one hundred films. Cooper received five Academy
Award
nominations for Best Actor, winning twice for Sergeant York (1941)
and High Noon (1952). He also received an Honorary Award in 1961 from
the Academy. The American Film Institute named Cooper among the their
100 Years…100 Stars
