Melvin (Mel) James Brooks (Kaminsky)

Mel Brooks is an actor, comedian, and filmmaker. With a career
spanning over seven decades, he is known as a writer and
director of a variety of successful broad farces and parodies. A
recipient of numerous accolades, he is one of 18 entertainers to
win the EGOT, which includes an Emmy Award, a Grammy Award,
an Academy Award ("Oscar"), and a Tony Award. He received a
Kennedy Center Honor in 2009, a Hollywood Walk of Fame star in
2010, the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2013, a British Film
Institute Fellowship in 2015, a National Medal of Arts in 2016, a
BAFTA Fellowship in 2017, and the Honorary Academy Award
in 2023.

He began his career as a comic and a writer for Sid Caesar‘s
variety show Your Show of Shows from 1950 to 1954.

On June 28, 1997, Mike Tyson bit Evander Holyfield’s ear in the
third round of their heavyweight rematch. The attack led to his disqualification from the match and suspension from boxing,
and was the strangest chapter yet in the champion’s roller-
coaster career.

Holyfield was examined but the fight continued after the bite.

On June 27, 1939, one of the most famous scenes in movie history 
was filmed: Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara parting in Gone with
the Wind. Director Victor Fleming also shot the scene using the
alternate line, “Frankly, my dear, I just don’t care,” in case the film censors objected to the word “damn.” The censors approved the
movie but fined producer David O. Selznick $5,000 for including
the curse.

Frederic Forrest, known for roles in "Apocalypse Now,"
“Falling Down” and "The Rose," died on Friday at his
home in Santa Monica, California.

On June 26, 1948, U.S. and British pilots began delivering food
and supplies by airplane to Berlin after the city is isolated by
a Soviet Union blockade.

American and British air forces flew over Berlin more than
250,000 times, dropping necessities.
