POPULAR TV SERIES ACHIEVED CULT STATUS

See the source image

Kolchak: The Night Stalker is a television series that aired on ABC
during the 1974–1975 season. The series followed
wire service
reporter Carl Kolchak (
Darren McGavin) who investigates
mysterious crimes with unlikely bizarre causes, particularly those
involving  the
supernatural
or science fiction, including fantastic
creatures.

The series was preceded by the two
television movies, The Night
Stalker
(1972) and The Night Strangler (1973). Although the series
lasted only a single season, it rapidly achieved
cult status and has
remained very popular in syndication.

Chris Carter cited Kolchak as a “tremendous influence” in creating
his franchise The X-Files. Following that success in 2005, The X-
Files
producer
Frank Spotnitz resurrected the series with a new cast
and characters, as well as subsequent novels and comic books. The
new series was a ratings bomb and was quietly cancelled after only
six of the ten episodes produced were aired.

COINS FROM THE LATE MIDDLE AGES FOUND

Priceless haul of 6,000 ancient coins found under farm photo 1

(Zenger News) -  More than 6,000 silver coins from the late Middle
Ages were discovered during a renovation project on a farm in the
village of Rainbach, Upper Austria.

The museum said the silver coins, which were handed over to the
OÖ Lande-Kultur GmbH museum in Upper Austria, also known as
Linz Schlossmuseum, “were wrapped in fabric and kept in a clay
lidded pot.”

The museum said that it is unclear how the coins got there and
who they belonged to. It is not known whether the coins that
were recently discovered will go on display at the museum.

THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH RETURNS ?

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Four years after the “Greatest
Show On Earth” shut down, officials are planning to bring back
the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus — without animal
acts.

An announcement is expected sometime next year, according to
Nicole Zimmerman, a spokesperson for Feld Entertainment Inc.
of Ellenton, Florida.

The three-ring circus shut down in May 2017 after a 146-year run.

Costly court battles with animal rights activists led circus officials
to end elephant acts in 2016. Without the elephants, ticket sales
declined. Officials also blamed increased railroad costs, and the
rise of online games and videos, which made the “Greatest Show
On Earth” not seem that great anymore.
