WASHINGTON (AP) — It will take more than three clicks of the heels to restore
the ruby slippers that whisked Dorothy back to Kansas at the end of “The
Wizard of Oz.”

The slippers, which for more than 30 years have been one of the most beloved
items at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, were crafted
almost 80 years ago by the MGM Studios prop department. Like most movie
props, they weren’t built to last. Now, the frayed shoes aren’t even ruby-
colored anymore — they’re more like a dull auburn.

The Smithsonian has asked the public to help save the slippers, launching
a
Kick starter campaign to raise $300,000
. In addition to restoring the shoes’
color, the money will go toward a technologically advanced display case that
will preserve them for future generations.

The Smithsonian’s museums are federally funded, but the institution frequently
solicits private and corporate contributions for major projects that its budget
doesn’t cover.

NEW YORK (FoxNews) –  A pair of black cowboy boots emblazoned with
the presidential seal (above) and several rare works of art were among
the first pieces of Ronald Reagan memorabilia to sell Wednesday as
treasured items from the former first family’s personal collection went
up for auction in New York.

The highly sought-after items — several of which went for well above
their estimated value — were put on the auction block inside a small
room before a hushed crowd of eager bidders at Christie’s in midtown
Manhattan. In total, 700 lots are being offered at the in-person auction
that continues into Thursday,

MAY 1976 (#70)

Gold Key Comics published a long-running Twilight Zone comic that featured
the likeness of Rod Serling introducing both original stories and occasional
adaptations of episodes. The comic outlived the television series by nearly
20 years and Serling by nearly a decade. A later revival of Twilight Zone
comics was published by Now Comics, spinning off of the 1980s revival of
