REMEMBERING MEL BLANC

Melvin Jerome "Mel" Blanc (May 30, 1908 – July 10, 1989)

Blanc was born  in San Francisco, Ca., later moving to Portland, Or.
where he attended Lincoln High School.
He began a radio career in
1927 as a voice actor on the KGW program The Hoot Owls. In 1933,
after a stint in Los Angeles, Blanc returned to Portland and worked at
KEX radio where he produced and co-hosted a show called Cobweb
And Nuts.

Mel returned to Los Angeles in 1935 and joined Warner Bros.owned
KFWB radio in Hollywood. He soon became a regular on NBC’s The
Jack Benny Program
, playing various roles.

Mel Blanc, "The Man of a Thousand Voices", is regarded as one of the most influential people in the voice-acting industry. He was the first voice artist
in Hollywood to receive screen credit.

Clint Walker (Norman Eugene Walker)

Walker is a retired actor, best known for his television role as “Cheyenne
Bodie” in the ABC series Cheyenne (1955-1963). He worked as a doorman
and club bouncer before finding success in Hollywood.

Clint Walker made over 40 appearances in his television and film career,
which earned him a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.

Fess Parker as Davy Crockett

Billboard magazine reported that "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" was the most
popular song in the United States. Four versions of the song made the Billboard
charts. The original was sung by Fess Parker, followed by Bill Hayes, Tennessee
Ernie Ford, and bluegrass singer Mac Wiseman. Total combined sales of all the
versions reached more than 18 million copies sold.

Grace Lee Whitney (Mary Ann Chase) turned 83 in April. Besides her
role in Star Trek, she was also the original mermaid for the Chicken
of Sea tuna ad campaign. Whitney has made more than a hundred
television appearances since her television debut in Cowboy G-
Men
in 1953.

Whitney’s autobiography was released in 1998.The book delves
into her hiring and firing from Star Trek, her fight and eventual
victory over
alcohol and substance dependence, particularly
marijuana.
