Sigourney-Weaver today

Sigourney Weaver (born Susan Alexandra Weaver ) is a actress best
known for her role of Ellen Ripley in the four Alien films. Other films with
Weaver include Ghostbusters (1984) and its sequel Ghostbusters ll
(1989) Gorillas in the Mist: The Story of Dian Fossey (1988), and
Working Girl (1988). Her most  recent work was in James Cameron’s
Avatar (2009). Weaver has received three Academy Award nominations
and six Golden Globe Award nominations, two in 1988 (Best Actress
and Best Supporting Actress) for Gorillas in the Mist and Working Girl.

Al Martino (born Jasper Cini) was a singer and actor who obtained his
greatest success in the early 1950s and mid 1970s. He was described
as being “one of the greatest Italian American pop crooners”. His acting
career included a well remembered role as singer Johnny Fontane in
Francis Ford Coppola’s epic crime film The Godfather (1972).

The Jazz Singer, starring Al Jolson, is a 1927 musical film that was one of the
most significant developments in the history of motion pictures. It was the first
film with synchronized sequences which heralded what became known as the
“talkies” and the decline of the silent film era. The movie premiered on
October 6, 1927, at Warner Bros.’ flagship theater in New York City.  

ÒThe Jazz Singer,Ó the 1927 breakthrough film that featured synchronized sound in both musical numbers and talking segments, will be celebrated in an 80th anniversary screening on Friday, October 5, at 8 p.m. at the Academy of Motion Picture of Arts and SciencesÕ Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Janet Gaynor was one of the most popular actresses of the silent film
era. In 1928  Gaynor became the first and only winner of the Academy
Award for Best Actress for her performances in three different films:
Seventh Heaven (1927), Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927) and
Street Angel (1928).  Her career continued with the advent of talking
pictures when she achieved success in the original version of A Star
Is Born
(1937).
