SINGER HUEY LEWIS IS 66 TODAY


Huey Lewis (Hugh Anthony Cregg III) was born in New York.

Lewis sings lead and plays harmonica for his band, Huey Lewis
and
the News, in addition to writing or co-writing many of the
band’s songs. He learned how to play the harmonica while
hitchhiking across the country.

"The Power of Love", also called "Power of Love", is a 1985
single by Huey Lewis and the News, written for and featured
in the 1985 blockbuster film Back to the Future
.  It gave the
band their first number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

Actor and producer Tom Cruise grew up in an abusive household
and had planned to become a priest before becoming interested
in acting. He became the most well-known member of the Church
of Scientology, founded by L. Ron Hubbard.

NUMBER-ONE ON THIS DAY IN 1966

Sinatra’s Strangers In The Night reached number one on both the Billboard
Hot 100
chart and the Easy Listening chart, it was the title song for Sinatra’s
1966 album of the same name which became his most commercially successful
album. The record won Sinatra the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal
Performance and the Grammy Award for Record of the Year.

RECORD RECORDED ON THIS DAY IN 1935

"King Porter Stomp" is called one of the greatest compositions of the 20th
century and is considered to be important in the development of jazz. There
are many recorded versions, but this one by Benny Goodman and his
Orchestra is the most popular and influential. It was recorded in New York 
for the Victor label. The song was written by pianist and composer Jelly
Roll Morton around 1905.
