MISSION ENDED ON THIS DAY IN 1969

Apollo 12 was the sixth manned flight in the U.S. Apollo program and
the second to land on the Moon. It was launched on November 14
from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida with mission commander
Charles "Pete" Conrad, Lunar Module Pilot Alan L. Bean and the 
Command Module Pilot Richard F. Gordon. The landing site for the
mission was located in the southeastern portion of the Ocean of
Storms
.

The flight of Gemini 12 ended successfully as astronauts James A. Lovell
and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin Jr. splashed down safely in the Atlantic Ocean.

BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1930


Neil Alden Armstrong
(August 5, 1930 – August 25, 2012) He was
born in Wapakoneta, Ohio.

Neil Armstrong was a astronaut, aerospace engineer, test pilot, and professor
who became the first person to set foot on the moon on July 21, 1969. He spent
8 days, 14 hours, 12 minutes, and 30 seconds in space. He took his first flight
at the age of six, when he and his father took a ride in a Ford Trimotor plane
in Warren, Ohio.
