SINGER GOGI GRANT IS DEAD AT 91


Gogi Grant (Myrtle Audrey Arinsberg)
(September 20, 1924 – March 10, 2016)

Gogi Grant, best known for her No. 1 hit in 1956 “The Wayward Wind”, died
Thursday. She recorded more than a dozen albums over her career. Grant
took a two-decade hiatus from show business to raise a family but returned
to singing in 1987 and performed into her late 80s.

REMEMBERING JOEY MARTIN FEEK


Joey Martin Feek (September 9, 1975 – March 4, 2016)

INDIANAPOLIS (USA Today) — A public memorial service for
country music artist Joey Martin Feek will be held Sunday in
the Alexandria-Monroe High School gymnasium. Feek was a
native of Alexandria and died in her family home March 4,
at the age of 40 following a two-and-a-half year struggle
with cancer. The service will be hosted by Bill and Gloria
Gaither, gospel musicians and family friends of Feek’s.

Bill Gaither was quoted as saying…“Joey was one of a
kind. We all will miss that sweet, transparent spirit.”

‘FIFTH BEATLE’ HAS DIED AT 90


Sir George Henry Martin (January 3, 1926 – March 8, 2016)  

Music producer Sir George Martin, best known for his work with the
Beatles, died late Tuesday. at the age of 90.

Martin’s death was confirmed on Twitter by Beatles drummer Ringo
Starr on his Twitter account. His management said in an e-mail to the
Associated Press that Martin had "passed away peacefully at home".

RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1965

The song "Help Me, Rhonda" peaked at number one, making it the second Beach
Boys single to reach that position after "I Get Around" in 1964. It was later released
on the Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!) album in June 1965.

RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1963

The single “Surfin’ U.S.A”  peaked at number two in the chart of the Music
Vendor
trade paper (within a year renamed Record World) and at number
three on both the Billboard and Cash Box charts. It was backed with "Shut
Down”. Billboard ranked "Surfin’ U.S.A." the number 2 song of 1963 and is
part of the The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock
and Roll
list.
