FOUNDING BAND MEMBER DIES AT 74


Paul Lorin Kantner (March 17, 1941 – January 28, 2016)

Paul Kantner, one of the giants of the San Francisco music scene, died Thursday.

Kantner, a founding member of the Jefferson Airplane, had suffered a heart attack
this week.

His death was confirmed by longtime publicist and friend, Cynthia Bowman, who
said he died of multiple organ failure and septic shock.

Paul Kanter was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with other band
members in 1996.

TV ACTOR HAS DIED AT AGE 94


Abraham Charles "Abe" Vigoda (February 24, 1921 – January 26, 2016)

Vigoda is most notable for his portrayal of Sal Tessio in the 1972 Francis Ford
Coppola
film The Godfather, for the 1990 film Joe Versus the Volcano, and for
his portrayal of Detective Sgt. Phil Fish on the television sitcom series Barney
Miller
from 1975 to 1977 and on its spinoff show Fish that aired from February
1977 to June 1978 on ABC.

On January 22, 2016, Vigoda’s nephew, Jesse Vigoda Kurland, reported that
Abe Vigoda was dying and had been committed into a hospice, having stopped
taking his medication.

BAND MEMBER IS DEAD AT 67


Glenn Lewis Frey (November 6, 1948 – January 18, 2016)

(FofNews) – Glenn Frey, a founding member of the rock band the Eagles, died
Monday in New York City.

Frey “fought a courageous battle” for the past several weeks, according to his
publicist, but succumbed to complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute
ulcerative colitis and pneumonia.

Guitarist Frey and drummer Don Henley formed the Eagles in Los Angeles the
early 1970s, along with guitarist Bernie Leadon and bassist Randy Meisner. They
would become a top act over the next decade, embodying the melodic California
sound.

DAN HAGGERTY HAS DIED AT 74



Dan Haggerty (November 19, 1941 – January 15, 2016)

Haggerty was best known for the title role in The Life and Times of Grizzly
Adams
 on NBC. He also played Jeremiah—a modern day version of Grizzly
Adams—in the films Grizzly Mountain (1997) and Escape to Grizzly Mountain 
(2000). According to his manager the ’70s star died of cancer surrounded by
his kids. Haggerty had been battling cancer of the spine since last year.

ACTOR ALAN RICKMAN HAS DIED AT 69


Alan Sidney Patrick Rickman (February 21, 1946 – January 14, 2016)

(AP) – British actor Alan Rickman, a classically-trained stage star and sensual
screen villain in the "Harry Potter" saga and other films, has died.

Rickman’s family said Thursday that the actor had died after a battle with cancer.

Film roles included the psychopathic villain Hans Gruber in "Die Hard" in 1988.
