CLINT EASTWOOD IS A HERO, FOR REAL!

Pebble Beach Golf

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) – Clint Eastwood added another starring role at the
AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am – life saver.

Eastwood attended a volunteer party on the eve of the PGA Tour event when he
noticed tournament director Steve John choking on a piece of cheese. The 83-
year-old actor quickly performed the Heimlich maneuver Wednesday night at the Monterey Conference Center.

"I was drinking water and eating these little appetizers, threw down a piece of
cheese and it just didn’t work," John said Friday. "I was looking at him and
couldn’t breathe. He recognized it immediately and saved my life."

Eastwood is a prominent figure at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am,
formerly as an amateur contestant and now as chairman of the Monterey
Peninsula Foundation. It has raised over $100 million for charity as the host of
the PGA Tour event.

He’s often in the CBS tower on the weekend and presents the trophy to the
winner, a list that includes Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Brandt Snedeker
in recent years
.
The Hollywood star wasn’t expecting an additional duty this week. Eastwood
said it was the first time he used the life saving maneuver.

(FoxNews/AP) – The baseball Hall of Fame says slugger Ralph Kiner
has died at 91. The Hall says Kiner died Thursday at his home in
Rancho Mirage.

Kiner hit 369 home runs during his 10-year career, mostly with the
Pittsburgh Pirates. He won or tied for the National League lead in
homers in each of his first seven seasons.

After finishing up as a player, Kiner became a popular broadcaster
with the New York Mets for more than a half-century. He worked a
handful of games last year.

"Ralph Kiner was one of the most beloved people in Mets history —
an original Met and extraordinary gentleman," Mets chairman and
CEO Fred Wilpon said in a statement. "After a Hall of Fame playing
career, Ralph became a treasured broadcasting icon for more than
half a century. His knowledge of the game, wit, and charm entertained
generations of Mets fans.  Like his stories, he was one of a kind.  We
send our deepest condolences to Ralph’s five children and twelve
grandchildren.  Our sport and society today lost one of the all-time
greats."
