RECORD RECORDED ON THIS DAY IN 1935

"King Porter Stomp" is called one of the greatest compositions of the 20th
century and is considered to be important in the development of jazz. There
are many recorded versions, but this one by Benny Goodman and his
Orchestra is the most popular and influential. It was recorded in New York 
for the Victor label. The song was written by pianist and composer Jelly
Roll Morton around 1905.

RECORDING BEGAN ON THIS DAY IN 1957

The song "Peggy Sue" was written by Buddy Holly, Jerry Allison, and Norman
Petty
. It was originally called "Cindy Lou", named for Buddy’s niece, but was
later changed to "Peggy Sue" in reference to Crickets drummer Jerry Allison‘s
girlfriend (and future wife), Peggy Sue Gerron. The song went to #3 on the
Billboard Top 100 chart in 1957. It is currently ranked as the 106th greatest
song of all time, as well as the third best song of 1957, by Acclaimed Music.

RECORDING BEGAN ON THIS DAY IN 1969

The Hollies’ recording He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother  which features Elton
John
on piano, was released on December 1, 1969 in the US where it reached
No. 7 on the charts. It was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London, England.

SINGLE RECORDED ON THIS DAY IN 1965

The track “Yesterday” was recorded at Abbey Road Studios immediately
following the taping of "I’m Down", and four days before McCartney’s 23rd
birthday. McCartney’s vocal and acoustic guitar, together with a string
quartet
, essentially made for the first solo performance of the band.

The single “Maybe” by the Ink Spots went to #2
on the Pop Charts. The song is featured in the
popular Fallout video game (1997) as the opening
