"Hot Fun in the Summertime" was recorded by Sly and the Family
Stone
. It peaked at number 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 pop
singles chart and number 3 on the Billboard soul singles chart in
autumn 1969. It is ranked as the seventh biggest hit of 1969 and
Rolling Stone ranked the song #247 on it’s list of the "500 Greatest
Songs of All Time
", and it also has been named in lists by Yahoo!
Music
and AskMen as an all-time "summer anthem."

RECORD RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1968

"Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (A Letter from Camp)" is a Grammy Award-
winning novelty song by Allan Sherman and Lou Busch. It is based on
letters of complaint Allan received from his son Robert while attended
Camp Champlain in Westport, New York. The song is a parody that
complains about the fictional "Camp Granada" and is set to the tune
of Amilcare Ponchielli‘s "Dance of the Hours". The song scored #2
on the Billboard Hot 100 list for three weeks beginning August 24,
1963 and won a 1964 Grammy Award for comedy

RECORD RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1968

The song "Magic Bus" was written by Pete Townshend during the time that
My Generation was being recorded in 1965. It has become one of the band’s
most popular songs and has been a concert staple, although when released,
the record only reached number 25 in the U.S.

RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1963

 

Described by Miracles lead singer Smokey Robinson as "One
of our biggest records ever in life", "Mickey’s Monkey" was a
Billboard Top 10 Pop hit, reaching # 8 on that chart, and a
Top 10 R&B hit as well, reaching # 3. It was also the Miracles’
third million selling record in as many years.
