SINGLE RECORDED ON THIS DAY IN 1957

The song “Jailhouse Rock” was recorded at Radio Recorders in Hollywood,
California and was released on September 24, 1957, to coincide with the
release of Presley’s motion picture,Jailhouse Rock. It is #67 on Rolling
Stone
s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and was named one
of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and
Roll
. In 2004 , it finished at #21 on AFI’s 100 Years…100 Songs survey
of top tunes in American cinema.

SINGLE RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1966

The song "Wild Thing" was originally recorded by the American band The
Wild Ones
in 1965, but is best known for its 1966 cover by the English band
The Troggs, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in July 1966. It
ranked #261 on the Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs
of All Time.

NUMBER-ONE ON THIS DAY IN 1960

The record The Theme From “A Summer Place” went on to set an at-the-time
record of nine consecutive weeks at #1, a record which would not be broken
until 1977, when "You Light Up My Life" spent ten weeks at the top spot.

SINGLE RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1966

The song "When a Man Loves a Woman" was written by Calvin Lewis and
Andrew Wright and recorded by Percy Sledge at Norala Sound Studio in
Sheffield, Alabama. It made number one on both the Billboard Hot 100
and
R&B singles charts.
