"That’ll Be the Day" is a song written by Buddy Holly and Jerry Allison and 
became a number-one hit on the 1957 "Best Sellers in Stores" chart in
Billboard magazine. The song also went to number two on Billboard’s
R&B singles chart.

One of several songs recorded during Buddy Holly’s last
time in the recording studio prior to going on the road with
the Winter Dance Party the next day. The single was not
released until 1969, a decade after his tragic death in a
plane crash on February 3, 1959.

LAST RECORD ON THIS DAY IN 1958

On January 5, 1958, Coral Records released what would prove to be
Buddy Holly‘s last record before his death in a plane crash on February
3, 1959. "It Doesn’t Matter Anymore", which was one of the few songs
that Buddy recorded that he didn’t write himself. It was penned by Paul
Anka. The pop ballad reached #13 as a posthumous hit on the Billboard
Hot 100 charts in early 1959. The single was backed with “Raining In My
Heart”.
