SITCOM DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1966

FAMILY AFFAIR

The sitcom Family Affair aired on CBS from September 12, 1966 to September
9,1972. The series starred Brian Keith as bachelor Bill Davis and follows his
adventures as he attempts to raise his brother’s orphaned children, 15-year-
old Cissy (Kathy Garver) and the 6-year-old twins, Jody (Johnny Whitaker)
and Buffy (Anissa Jones). The butler, Mr. Giles French was played by
Sebastian Cabot. The show ran for 138 episodes. Family Affair was
created and produced by Don Fedderson, also known for the series
My Three Sons.

The Monkees is a NBC situation comedy that aired from September 12,
1966 to March 25, 1968. The series follows the adventures of four young
men (The Monkees) as they strive to make a name for themselves as rock ‘n
roll singers. The show won two Emmy Awards in 1967.

Christina Ann "Kristy" McNichol  was best known for her roles as Leticia
“Buddy” Lawrence on the ABC television drama series Family and as
Barbara Weston on the NBC-TV sitcom Empty Nest. She is also the
sister of former child actor Jimmy McNichol. Kristy retired from acting 
when she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1992.

LONG RUNNING SERIES ENDED ON THIS DAY IN 1966

Ozzie&Harriet dvd_01 

The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet premiered on ABC-TV on October 10, 1952
and due to declining ratings, the show was canceled with the last episode airing 
on September 3, 1966. The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet ran for a total of 
fourteen seasons, and for almost four de cades, held the record as the longest  
running television sitcom, live or animated, until that record was broken by The
Simpsons in 2004. It still holds the record for the longest running live-action
sitcom in television history.

FRED MACMURRAY (AUG. 30, 1908-NOV. 5, 1991)

Actor Frederick Martin "Fred" MacMurray  appeared in more than 100
movies and a successful television series during a career that spanned
nearly a half-century, from 1930 to the 1970s. MacMurray is well known
for his role in the 1944 film noir Double Indemnity with costar Barbara
Stanwyck. He later became known as Steve Douglas, the widowed head
of the family on My Three Sons,which ran on ABC-TV from 1960 – 1965 
and then on the CBS television network from 1965 – 1972.
