SUCCESSFUL RETURN ON THIS DAY IN 1969


Apollo 12 landed safely in the Pacific Ocean bringing an end to the
second manned mission to the moon.

The Apollo 12 mission was the sixth manned flight in the U.S. Apollo program
and the second to land on the Moon. It was launched on November 14. The
Commander, Charles "Pete" Conrad and Lunar Module Pilot Alan L. Bean 
performed just over one day and seven hours of lunar surface activity while
Command Module Pilot Richard F. Gordon remained in lunar orbit.

FLIGHT LAUNCHED ON THIS DAY IN 1969

Apollo 12 was the sixth manned flight in the U.S. Apollo program and the second to
land on the Moon.  It was launched from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, four months after Apollo 11.

SPEED RECORD SET ON THIS DAY IN 1961


Robert Michael "Bob" White  (July 6, 1924 – March 17, 2010)

Major Robert White flew the X-15 at 4,093 mph, making him the first pilot to fly
a winged craft at six times the speed of sound (Mach 6). The Air Force Chief
of Staff General Curtis E. LeMay awarded White a new rating as a Command
Pilot Astronaut.

FIRST SI-FI RADIO SHOW ON THIS DAY IN 1932

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century was a radio drama series based on the popularity
of the novel and comics series Buck Rogers. It aired until March 28, 1947. It was
initially broadcast as a 15-minute program on CBS Radio, from Monday through 
Thursday. Actors Matt Crowley, Curtis Arnall, Carl Frank and John Larkin all voiced
Buck Rogers at various times during the run.
