FIRST WORD’S FROM SPACE ON THIS DATE IN 1958
RCA’s project SCORE (signal communications orbit relay equipment)
was the world’s first communications satellite. An Air Force Atlas
inter-continental ballistic missile (ICBM) launched the satellite from
Cape Canaveral, Florida. The first voice broadcast from SCORE
was a message from President Dwight D. Eisenhower, shown in
the above photo.
FIRST AIRPLANE FLIGHT ON THIS DATE IN 1903
The Wright Brothers, Orville and Wilbur, made the first successful
man-powered airplane flight near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
LAST MOON MISSION ON THIS DATE IN 1972
Today marks the day of the sixth and final lunar
landing mission of the NASA Apollo program.
